The Elephant House

The Elephant House is an exclusive lodge situated in the fertile, sun-drenched, malaria-free Sundays River Valley near the Addo Elephant National Park.

The Elephant House is a rambling thatched farmhouse built around courtyards and lush gardens and furnished with the owners' private collection of antiques, Persian rugs and art. The main defining features are the wide verandas (furnished with comfortable sofas) which form a series of courtyards. The 8 spacious en suite bedrooms, all with their own private verandas, open onto the courtyards.

Lovely light poolside lunches are prepared by the chef and after your game drive enjoy a “sundowner” followed by a memorable three course candlelit dinner prepared and served with flair and personal attention. Locally grown produce is used wherever possible.

Children are welcome and baby sitters are available on request. Children have the use of the “Club Room” where they can enjoy games, the TV, a DVD library and a laptop computer.

Hop on a Land Cruiser and head for the Addo Elephant National Park. After a memorable safari, return to the colonial luxury of The Elephant House – order an ice cold cocktail (our recommendations are the house specialities – the Bombay Sapphire G&T with Angostura bitters or a Pimms No1!) then take a dip in one of two swimming pools or find a quiet corner in the garden to put your feet up with a good book.

From October to May (Mon – Fri) our in-house masseur is able to offer our guests a choice of complimentary pampering sessions in her purpose built “treatment room and boma.” Enjoy any of the following treatments - Full body massages - Manicures & Pedicures - Indian Head Massages - Sports massages.
