Description
“The Wild Coast? The Drakensberg? Never heard of it.” “I wouldn’t know how to get there.” These are the kinds of responses we’ve heard time and again from international visitors to South Africa. And every time, our answer is the same: “You’re missing the best part.” That’s why we created Kululeka Travel — to open the door to South Africa’s wild, untouched places that most tourists never get to see. While Cape Town, the Garden Route, and Kruger National Park are undeniably beautiful, they’re just the beginning. We specialize in the places that are harder to reach, less talked about, and absolutely unforgettable. Places like the rugged cliffs of the Wild Coast, the misty peaks of the Drakensberg, and the quiet, soul-stirring corners of the country that locals treasure. We’ve spent our lives exploring these regions, building relationships with the communities who call them home, and uncovering the kinds of experiences that don’t show up in guidebooks. Now, we’re here to share them with you. Begin your journey at Port Elizabeth Airport, where you’ll meet your group, driver, and guide. Head straight into nature with a stop at a peaceful nature reserve, home to roaming herds of antelope, zebra, and wildebeest. With no Big Five predators in the area, explore the open grasslands of the Kei Cuttings on foot, surrounded by wildlife and wide skies. Next, enjoy a 4-day slack-packing trip along the remotest part of South Africa, a place extremely close to the hearts of your guides. This area is called the ‘Pondoland.’ Pondoland is part of the Wild Coast, renowned for its rugged cliffs, secluded beaches, and lush estuaries. Iconic natural landmarks include Waterfall Bluff (1 of 7 waterfalls in the world plunging directly into the ocean), Cathedral Rock, and Magwa Falls (second highest waterfall in SA), which will all be seen during your hike. Pondoland is home to the AmaMpondo people, a Xhosa-speaking community with a rich history, traditional customs, and vibrant storytelling. Experience this culture as MbotyiOnline provides you with their amazing, local guides. Then, head to the Drakensburg Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to their breathtaking scenery and cultural significance. With the highest peak standing at 3450m above sea level, the views overlooking South Africa are incredible. The Drakensberg Mountains are famous for their San rock paintings, which are among the best-preserved examples of prehistoric art in the world. Created by the San people (Bushmen) over thousands of years, these paintings provide a glimpse into their lives, beliefs, and spiritual practices. Choose from optional activities (at your own cost) like a sunset horse ride, a guided hike into the Cobham area of the Southern Drakensburg, or a 4×4 trip up Sani Pass to have a drink at the ‘highest pub in Africa.’Includes
