Itinerary
Day 1: Cape Town to Oudtshoorn
Depart Cape Town at 8am along the R62 Wine Route passing Worcester, Robertson, Montagu, and Oudtshoorn. Afternoon tour of Oudtshoorn followed by a visit to the Cango Caves, Africa’s largest show cave system and South Africa’s oldest tourist attraction. Overnight stay at Karoo Retreat or similar in Oudtshoorn.
Day 2: Oudtshoorn to Knysna
After breakfast, enjoy a 3-hour 4x4 game drive at Botlierskop Game Reserve spotting lions, elephants, rhinos, kudus, buffaloes, impalas, zebras, and giraffes. In the afternoon, brief tour of Wilderness before heading to Knysna. Overnight stay at the Russel Hotel or similar.
Day 3: Knysna to Plettenberg Bay
Morning hike at Robberg Nature Reserve, a World Heritage Site with fossils over 120 million years old. Visit Plettenberg Bay’s white sandy beaches, Knysna Heads, and optionally the Bloukrans Bridge for the world’s highest bungee jump. In the afternoon, visit Knysna Quays Waterfront and optionally take a sunset boat cruise. Overnight at the Russel Hotel or similar.
Day 4: Knysna to Hermanus
After breakfast, travel to Swellendam for a brief historical tour. Continue to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. Proceed to Hermanus for overnight accommodation at a 3-star lodge or hotel.
Day 5: Hermanus to Cape Town
Morning tour of Hermanus, known for excellent seasonal whale watching. After lunch, wine tasting of five selections at Benguela Cove Wine Estate. Visit Betty's Bay to see endangered African Penguins. Return via the scenic Whale Coast Route, concluding the tour in Cape Town by late afternoon.
