Amakhala Game Reserve Morning and Afternoon Safari

This safari at Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape suits wildlife enthusiasts looking to experience predator and elephant activity across morning and afternoon sessions.

Description

Choose between a morning or afternoon safari to experience the African bush at different times of day.

Morning Safari: The Bush Waking Up

Start before dawn, wrapped in a blanket with hot coffee, and watch the bush wake with sunrise. Spot lions returning from night hunts, elephants drinking at the river, and rhinos grazing in the cool air.

Pause in a safe clearing for coffee, tea, and rusks while listening to the sounds of the bush. Return to camp as the light intensifies, refreshed and alert.

Afternoon Safari: Africa at Its Most Beautiful

Depart camp as the heat fades and light softens. Animals re-emerge—buffalo herds move to waterholes, old bulls rest in mud wallows, and giraffes drink in vulnerable poses.

This open plain is ideal for cheetahs. You may see females teaching cubs to stalk. Elephants become active in the water, bathing and playing.

Stop at a ridge or river bend for sundowners—G&T, wine, juice, and snacks—while watching the sunset over the reserve toward the Zuurberg Mountains.

On return, a spotlight reveals nocturnal wildlife like genets, springhares, porcupines, and possibly leopards moving stealthily in the night.
