Shops

Shopping for those special items has become a total pleasure in Port Elizabeth since the opening of a wonderful little shop – Cupboard Love, just round the corner from a myriad of Richmond Hill’s trendy restaurants. In a little cottage at 17 Somerset Street, the exterior of Cupboard Love does not prepare you for the treat that is in store. Forget about fighting your way around the busy and hectic shopping malls and slip into a parking place right at the door and your shopping adventure is about to begin.

Cupboard Love is the culmination of over 3 years of a ‘work in progress’ for Carryn Scheepers. This exclusive lifestyle boutique, with the ever changing products on display, brings local talent to the fore where a vast selection of designer ceramics, glassware, linens, soft furnishings and interesting, different and fun gifts are available. Carryn places the main emphasis on sourcing and developing beautifully crafted and totally unique products.

With exquisite handmade pieces Cupboard Love is a collaboration between a handful of Port Elizabeth’s talented artists and new designers - each with a space in the beautiful old cottage to call their own.

Carryn Scheepers who is the co-ordinator and artistic talent ensures that visitors always have something exciting to look forward to - new stock arrives every two weeks. The now well known Urban Market, which is held in their courtyard outside, has exhibitions to showcase the talents of local artists and Cupboard Love even hosts special ‘open evenings’ where guests can enjoy sharing the knowledge of various speakers who will give advice on various topics ranging from décor, clothing and body care know how.

Lovetrap is the creation of owner Tania Robinson and her room in the Cupboard Love house is packed to the rafters with love. Wonderful items and hearts adorn the walls and the range of beautiful ceramics and knick-knacks laden tables – a delightful shopping experience.

Chandler’s, in the kitchen of the house, is where the wonderful and delicious variety of preserves and bottled items as well as stunning kitchen ware, crockery and cutlery is displayed. Elegant linen table cloths, napkins and occasionally a vintage piece or two are also sold here.

Without doubt, a wonderful way to shop for special and different gifts, Cupboard Love it the place to be. The items on offer from Port Elizabeth design talents as well as a stunning and wide array of creations from across the country will ensure you will not have to go any further!

Cupboard Love - Resident artists include:

Beetle & Rhubarb - handbags and lifestyle products, Myang - children’s shoes and blankets, African Daisy- clothing designed and made in St Francis, Love the Girl clothing - exclusive pieces sourced by Jess Peens.
