Eastern Cape
At a glance
AfriCamps Addo is a boutique glamping camp on the Hayterdale Trails property at R335 Addo, Port Elizabeth. Set in the Eastern Cape on the foothills of the Zuurberg Mountains, the camp is surrounded by indigenous fynbos, forested hills, gorges and valley bushveld. The setting combines a relaxed outdoor atmosphere with access to wildlife and mountain activities.
The accommodation consists of 14 fully equipped glamping tents in two styles. Classic tents sleep up to five guests, while premium tents are designed for couples seeking a more refined stay. Each tent has two bedrooms, extra-length queen-size beds, a single bunk bed in the classic design, an en suite bathroom and an L-shaped outdoor deck. Electric blankets, winter blankets, wall fans and an indoor wood-burning fireplace support year-round comfort.
Self-catering facilities make the camp suitable for meals prepared at the tent. Kitchens include a four-burner gas hob, air fryer toaster oven, bar fridge, crockery, cutlery and glasses. A built-in braai provides a traditional South African cooking option, while a private outdoor wood-fired hot tub adds a slower, more restful element to the stay. Decks include picnic tables, chairs and views across the surrounding natural landscape.
Outdoor activities form a central part of the experience. The property offers 50 kilometres of mountain biking, trail running and hiking routes through yellowwood forests, rolling hills and areas of valley bushveld with ancient cycads. Birdwatching is also well suited to the setting, with more than 160 bird species recorded on the property. The conservancy provides opportunities to spot sable and nyala, while Addo Elephant National Park lies about 10 kilometres away for a dedicated Big Five safari experience.
AfriCamps Addo suits couples, families and groups of friends looking for a comfortable base near wildlife and outdoor recreation. The combination of private decks, self-catering amenities, hot tubs and access to trails gives the camp a balance of independence, nature and simple comforts. Nearby activities also include fishing and further birdwatching, making the area suitable for both active days and quiet time around the tent.
