Bed and Breakfast

If staying in a home steeped in history (dating back to 1818), ambiance and a graciousness of a bygone era look no further than Heritage House in Cradock. It is worth driving to Cradock purely to indulge yourself by spending a few days in this beautifully renovated Victorian homestead or if you need a bed on your way through you will feel all the stress and mayhem of the busy outside world slip away as you relax next to the salt-water pool surrounded by tranquil gardens. The gardens are a bird lover’s paradise.

14 guests can be accommodated in the seven double bedrooms of Heritage House which all have their own entrance and all are en-suite. Three are in the main house and the other four bedrooms are in the two charming garden cottages.

Heritage House's dining room, steeped in atmosphere, is where your full English breakfast will be served. Delicious home-cooked dinners and packed lunches can be provided by prior arrangement.

The spacious rooms at Heritage House all have ceiling fans to cool you on warm evenings, a television, a bar fridge, heaters and electric blankets for the colder months, toiletries and tea and coffee making facilities are also provided.

There is safe parking and pets are welcome.

History– past to present

Although Heritage House was aptly named and turned into a bed and breakfast in 1999 it is a 180 year-old homestead which has grown over the years from its original design of 2 rooms with a passage in between.

The present owners, Meyrick Kretschmer and Wim Vermeulen bought the house in 2007 and can be justifiably proud of a special mention in the 2009 AA TRAVEL GUIDE as one of the ‘Greatly Improved Properties of 2009.’ Heritage House was also a finalist in the 2009 AA Travel Guides American Express Accommodation Awards programme. Meyrick trained with the Holiday Inn group and has managed guesthouses in Vanrhijnsdorp, Clarens and Ladybrand. Wim is Hotel School trained and has managerial experience with Holiday Inn, the Southern Sun group and the world famous Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town.

Heritage House is within walking distance of the Cradock central business district, tourist attrations and restaurants. The Mountain Zebra Park is a short distance from Cradock. Other tourist attractions include Schreiner House Museum, The Great Fish River Museum and for water sport enthusiasts there is a water sports venue at Lake Arthur. Game Parks with big game are only 30 kms away, famous rock art sites are only 20 kms away and golf, canoeing, and bowls facilities are less than 5 kms away.
